SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE -- Due to the generosity of people who care about the future of antique quilts, we have two half-scholarships available for the workshops. To apply, write "Scholarship Application" in the Special Instructions" area during checkout. Scholarships are for half-tuition. You will still be responsible for transportation and room and board.
The two-day Beginning Quilt Restoration Workshop with Nancy Kirk will teach you basic restoration techniques to use to repair patchwork and applique quilts from the 19th and 20th century.
You will learn the four basic stitches to use in most restorations. Learn to use the specialized threads, materials and tools of professional restorers.
We will also cover dating fabrics and conservation/preservation approaches for quilts. Learn the differences among preservation, conservation and restoration, and how restoration can affect the value of quilts.
On Friday, we have an optional Field Trip to the International Quilt Study Center in Lincoln. The trip includes transportation, lunch, musuem admissions and some good antiquing on the way home.
On Saturday and Sunday we have the Advanced Quilt Restoration Workshop which focuses on Crazy Quilts and other more advanced Quilt Restoration issues. We cover replacing shattered silks, replacing embroidery, use of crepeline and use of archival fusibles.
